When I created this newsletter, earlier this year, I wanted to offer something completely different. I wanted to created the type of content and community that I would have wanted to find when I was studying German, Spanish, Italian, etc. (And in fact, that I still can’t find!)
I also wanted to focus on Quebecois and French Canadian culture, while also explain crucial elements of standard French.
So my approach has been
A focus on original content, based on the idea that in order to improve a language, you have to read and listen.
Intermediate-level content. Anyone can learn beginner French from thousands of resources. But it’s much more difficult to make progress at an intermediate or advanced level, so that’s where my focus is.
Explaining lesser-known aspects of French grammar, especially spoken French.
Sharing good strategies for learning languages in general.
A big focus on Quebec’s language, history and culture, from the perspective of someone living here (and growing up here).
Now that 2023 is almost over, I’d like to share with you my favorite posts from French With Frederic!

I really appreciate this newsletter to study French and also English.
The newsletter is excellent, thank you! Do you know of anyone who has done a proper English translation of 23 décembre, along with notes of explanation? I understand the words but there are so many allusions. I would love to really understand its meaning.
